NWLCRA April 7, 2015 Meeting

6:30 PM, Country Tavern Barbecue

Our meeting began with Ken Braswell, President of our local Northwest Louisiana Collision Repair Association, opening our meeting with a prayer and the reading of the Anti-Trust Law. We were lead in the Pledge of Allegiance by the Shepherds; Randi, Taylor, and Abigail. We are seeking guest speakers for our May and June meetings, so if you have any suggestions, contact Bill Burnside or Ken Braswell.

Ken discussed the upcoming Southern Automotive Conference that is being held on April 17th & 18th. Ken has gone to several in the past and said it would be worth your while to attend. To read more about the conference, click here.

Chris Shepherd, Collision Repair Instructor with the Northwest Louisiana Technical College, spoke about the Louisiana Post Secondary SKILLS USA competition. He had several students that placed in this competition and are now headed for the National Post Secondary SKILLS USA competition. The students that placed are as follows:

The students have to write an estimate and complete an interview process before moving on the technical portion. Everyone that placed in the Collision Repair were also given Die grinder, donated by Lashley Supply. The winners that placed in the Automotive Refinish were given paint guns, also donated by Lashley Supply. Other gifts given to the winners were donated by Snap On and Matco. Bill Burnside and Colormaster donated "goodie bags" to ALL PARTICIPANTS! Congratulations to the winners and all involved.

Bill Burnside provided the current upcoming I-CAR classes in our area for 2015. Chris Shepherd reminded everyone that the new I-CAR policy is that a class not signed up for within 48 hours of start time will result in the class being canceled. We are going to try and have this list on the NWLCRA website.

Other issues discussed were changes in the Bossier Parish Schools about graduating from the program and the results of an independent survey. Mark Monroe, Instructor with Bossier Parish School of Technology and Innovative Learning, discussed some changes that are in the process of being determined by the Bossier Parish School Board. He may be contacting area Collision Repair shops for research/input. Thad Greer with SingleSource said he should have the results of the Independent survey by next meeting and would go over them.

Chris Shepherd, Collision Instructor for Louisiana Technical College filled in as our guest speaker instead of Trence McCoy. Chris discussed the upcoming BPCC 100. This event will be held on April 25th. This will be the 6th annual BPCC 100 Go-Kart Race. This year they have a new sponsor, Capital One Bank. This is a family fun event with food and events for all kids. Admission is free. All entry fees paid by the participants are TAX DEDUCTIBLE and all money raised by this fund raiser will go to scholarships. Mark your calendar and come out to support your local community.

Chris also mentioned another organization that will hold their 42nd Annual Street Rod Reunion at Boomtown Casino and Resort, April 10-11. The Red River Street Rod Association was formed in 1973 and is the oldest continually operating street rod club in Louisiana. They donate $2,500.00 annually to deserving students. The students that receive the scholarship will be the students that don't receive any other assistance. For more information, visit, www.redriverstreetrod.com

Meeting was adjourned at 7:30 PM.
