May 2, 2017 Meeting

We are already at our May meeting. The year seems to be speeding by again. We met at the Country Tavern Barbecue at 6:30 PM. Chris Shepherd, our President and Collision Instructor with Caddo Career & Technology Center, called the meeting to order. Mark Monroe, Collision Instructor with Bossier Parish School for Technology and Innovative Learning led us in prayer. Abigail Shepherd led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

SKILLS USA state level competitions were held here at our local CC&TC and BPSTIL campuses. We are proud of our local students that competed. We had most of the winners at our meeting. See the photos below. From the High School competition, the Winners from our area are Standrian "Scooter" Brown, that won the Bronze medal for Refinish. He attends Bossier Parish School for Technology and Innovative Learning. Scooter will also be competing at the upcoming Nationals. For the Collision side, the Winners were Austin Skinner, Gold medalist, from Caddo Career & Technology Center. Dakota Williams won the Silver medal for Collision and attends the Caddo Career & Technology Center. Jonathan Fields won the Bronze for Collision and attends Bossier Parish School for Technology and Innovative Learning. Jonathan wasn't at our meeting because he was at PT. He is a senior and has already signed up for the Marines. Congratulations to all the competitors and a special Thank You to Jonathan for serving our Country as a proud Marine!

At the Post-Secondary SKILLS state level competition, the Winners are Gabriel Robinson, Gold medalist for Collision Repair, Sa'Derious Jackson, Silver medalist for Refinish, and Tommorea Carter, Bronze medalist for Refinish. All three are students from the Northwest Louisiana Technical College. Congratulations to all the competitors. Terry Frisch, State Farm Insurance, and a judge that handled the Interview process, said that all the candidates were eager to work. We are sad to report that it is now official, they are discontinuing the Collision Repair Program at NWLTC.

September 6, 2016 Meeting

The Northwest Louisiana Collision Repair Association met at the Country Tavern Barbecue at 6:30 PM. Our meeting was called to order by our President, Chris Shepherd, Collision Instructor for the Caddo Career and Technology Center. We were led in prayer by Duane Kimball, retired Collision Instructor for the Northwest Louisiana Technical College. Abigail Shepherd led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Chris then read the Anti-Trust law.

Old business covered seems like a repeat, but some of the information is still current. We only have one ad left to sale. The Auto Body Association of Texas (ABAT) is having a Texas Auto Body Trade Show with Mike Anderson as the Keynote Speaker. It will be held on September 16th and 17th. For more information, click here. The BPCC 100 will drop the green flag on September 24, 2016. For those that don't know, this is an annual race to raise money for scholarships. It's a great family event, so mark your calendars. For more information, click here. Other business that was discussed was the Johnny Dickerson Memorial Golf Tournament that I-CAR is having on October 8, 2016, at the Firewheel Golf Course in Garland, TX. Next we discussed some new business. ServPro of South Shreveport will offer a two hour training course on Bio Hazard Clean Up. For more information, click here and look for the Bio Hazard Clean UP. Louisiana Department of Insurance is having an all day conference on October 12th about Insurance Fraud and Automobile Theft. For more information, click here. Chris said Caddo Career & Technology Center will have his "Back-To-School" night, Thursday September 15. Mark Monroe, Collision Instructor for the Bossier Parish School of Technology and Innovative Learning will have theirs next week.

August 2, 2016 Meeting

May 3, 2016 Meeting

Our meeting was held at the Country Tavern Barbecue at 6:30 PM.  The meeting was called to order by Chris Shepherd, NWLCRA President, by reading the anti-trust law.  We were led in the Pledge of Allegiance by Abigail Shepherd.  We had some winners of the 2016 SKILLS USA High School competition at the meeting.  Pictured below are Austin Wallace, Automotive Refinish Technology Gold winner, and Levi Glasgow, Collision Repair Technology Gold winner.  They are pictured with their Instructor, Mark Monroe, Collision Repair Instructor for Bossier Parish School of Technology and Innovative Learning.  Not present at the meeting was Clete Stewart, Automotive Refinish Technology Silver winner.  Also present was Joshua Jackson, Collision Refinish Technology Gold winner for the Post Secondary SKILLS USA competition.  Joshua won Bronze in the 2015 competition.  We are fortunate to have this local talent.  Congratulations to all that competed.  The High School winners will be going to Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky, June 20 - 24, 2016.  A motion made by Jackie Boyd of Holmes Auto Group for $100.00 to be given to our local winners from SKILLS USA heading to Nationals, to help with costs.  This motion was seconded by Kevin Adams of Krystal Auto Collision.  The motion passed unanimously.  Other news discussed was grant money that has been obtained to help our local work force developement.  There will be a meeting on May 20 at Caddo Career and Technology Center from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM to discuss the particulars of this grant program.

April 5, 2016 Meeting

The Northwest Louisiana Collision Repair Association (www.nwlcra.org) met at the Country Tavern Barbecue in their meeting room. Our meeting was opened by Chris Shepherd reading of the Anti-Trust law. Chris reminded us that it's time to renew our membership dues. Just go to our online Application form to fill it out. Print out the email you'll receive on completing the form and mail it with your dues, or bring it to our next meeting. I-CAR classes are also posted on the I-CAR web site through December 31, 2016. If you have any special request for an I-CAR class, contact Bill Burnside or Chris Shepherd.

Chris discussed the upcoming SKILLS USA high school competition that was held on April 7 and 8. There were sixteen contestants, which was up from last year. We had three from Caddo Parish and two from Bossier Parish competing. Of the two Bossier Parish students, one received Gold in the Automotive Refinish, and the other received Gold in the Collision Repair Technology. Caddo brought home one Silver medal in Automotive Refinish. Congratulations to all the students that competed. We are proud that our area students performed so well! The post secondary SKILLS USA competition will be held at Northwest Louisiana Technical College on April 21, 2016.

March 1, 2016 Meeting

The Northwest Louisiana Collision Repair Association (www.nwlcra.org) met at the Country Tavern Barbecue in their meeting room. Our meeting was opened by Chris Shepherd reading of the Anti-Trust law. Dick McDaniel with Car-O-Liner led us in prayer. Randi and Abigail Shepherd led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Chris welcomed DeMarcus Robinson, Northwest Louisiana Technical College's new Collision Instructor. We are glad to have DeMarcus taking over the Collision program.

Chris went over the schedule of both the SKILLS USA High School and College competitions. The SKILLS USA High School competition will be held in Houma, Louisiana this year. It will be held April 6-8, 2016 at the Terrebonne Career and Technology Center. For more information about the SKILLS USA High School competition, click here, or go to skillsusala.org. The College competition will be held at Northwest Louisiana Technical College in Shreveport, LA . It will be on April 21 and 22, 2016. Our first meeting of the year was at the new Bossier Parish School of Technology and Innovative Learning. Mark Monroe is the Collision Instructor for the Collision Program and gave us a tour of the Collision classroom and shop. NWLCRA Reviews Caddo Career & Technology Center

Since there isn't a meeting for December, we decided to take a look at our local Caddo Career and Technology Center. Chris Shepherd is well known in the Collision Industry in Northwest Louisiana. He was the Instructor for Northwest Louisiana College in their Collision program. Now he has accepted a position with Caddo Career and Technology Center as their Collision Instructor. He took over the program and it was in need of some attention. Also, the Collision classrooms and shop were being air conditioned! Just look at the before pictures below and you'll get a sense of the challenge that was in front of Chris.

November 3, 2015 Meeting

We had our NWLCRA meeting on November 3, 2015 at the Country Tavern Barbecue. This was our last meeting of 2015. Our meeting was called to order by Bill Burnside, the NWLCRA Treasurer. Mark Monroe, Collision Instructor with the Bossier Parish School of Technology and Innovative Learning, led us in prayer. Randi and Abigail Shepherd led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

CCC may reschedule their meeting during the first quarter of 2016. We were hoping to have three estimating software programs demonstrated during our last three meetings, to give a good comparison, but we weren't able to get it to happen. Hopefully we will get to see CCC in action.

I-CAR classes are posted on the I-CAR website through June of 2016. To see classes taught in your area, just use the "Class Search" and enter your zip code. If you haven't been to I-CAR's website, you might not know that they have revised it.

September 1, 2015 Meeting

The NWLCRA met at the Country Tavern Barbecue at 6:30 pm. Our meeting was opened by Bill Burnside with a prayer and reading the Anti-Trust. Taylynn Olsen and Abigail Shepherd led our Pledge of Allegiance. All of our sponsors have renewed their support. We only need 3 more sponsors to be fully supported. Thanks to all that support the NWLCRA.

Some of the current changes going on locally concerning the Collision Industry are recent additions to Collision Instructors at local campuses. Congratulations to Kiley Polson, the new Collision Instructor for the Northwest Louisiana Technical College collision program. Gary Weese announced that Chris Shepherd has taken the position of Collision Instructor for Caddo Career & Technology Center's collision program. Congratulations to Chris Shepherd. Gary then stated that Louisiana State is determining budgetary items and said their collision students may be ASE certified. He would like feed back to the differences between ASE certification versus I-CAR. Give Gary a call at (318) 834-6633 and let him know your thoughts. He also reminded us that everyone is invited to their annual AYES Business and Education Council meeting on Thursday, September 17, 2015. It will be held at Caddo Career & Technology Center, 5950 Union Ave., Shreveport, LA. Lunch and refreshments will be served. The meeting will be from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Our guest speaker was Deric Krist, Collision Repair Consultant for Mitchell. He is our representative for this region for Mitchell International. Also with Deric, was Pauline Perenack, Senior Marketing Manager for Mitchell International. Deric began by giving an overview of Mitchell International. Currently they have over 66 different manufacturers. Mitchell Technicians are I-CAR certified. Mitchell International OWNS and MAINTAINS their database. They don't have a third-party database.

The meetings will be changing to day meetings, started with April's meeting. March will be our last night meeting. Our day meetings will begin in April and go to September.
